Having trouble sleeping at night? Many of us have trouble sleeping at one stage in our life or another. Some of us more severe than others and some people don’t even know what it feels like to get a good night sleep.
In most situations we have trouble sleeping at night because we had a coffee too late in the day, or had a super stressful day at work and are getting stressed about work tomorrow, or even because you are sleeping in someone else’s bed which is not comfortable.
But what are some things that you may not have known about? Here are some things that can be keeping you up at night without you even knowing it.
Having Trouble Sleeping At Night? It Could Be…
Yep, dark chocolate could be the cause of your trouble sleeping at night. If you like to have some of this yummy stuff after dinner, it could be contributing to your troubles sleeping. In most cases, dark chocolate contains caffeine and the darker the chocolate, generally the more caffeine in it. So if you want a good night sleep, no more dark chocolate before bed… Unfortunately.
Decaf Coffee & Most Teas
If you drink decaf coffee or a black tea in the evening and have trouble sleeping at night, it could be because you are drinking caffeine without even knowing it. Did you know that decaffeinated coffee actually contains caffeine? Although it is a much lesser amount than regular coffee, it can still make a difference to those who are sensitive to caffeine. Many teas also contain caffeine. So make sure you check your labels and avoid drinking teas with caffeine in them.
Many of us like spicy food. And when do we like to eat this spicy food? Generally for dinner. But did you know that spicy food can actually keep you up at night? You see this kind of food can cause heart burn which can keep anyone awake. It also raises the temperature of our body which can also make it harder to sleep.
Too Excited To Sleep
Being excited about something can make it very difficult to sleep. Think for example the last time you were leaving to go on an awesome holiday tomorrow. It is hard not to think about it when you are trying to sleep. You need to try and put it aside and focus on your breathing.
Also, many people play video games late into the night. During the game their minds are racing at 100mph so when they all of a sudden try and go to bed, their mind needs to slow down to 0mph. Try to finish playing video games or sports a couple of hours before you go to bed to avoid trouble sleeping at night.
Not many of us pay much attention to our pillows or how old they are. If you asked the average person how old their pillow was, I bet you will receive one of two answers. 1 – “I have no idea”. And 2 – “A few years old”. It is important to have a pillow which is comfortable and a good thickness and firmness for you. Everyone is different and like different pillows. Make sure to replace your pillow every couple of years as they tend to be a magnet for dust particles and other nasties. So if you have trouble sleeping at night, try changing your pillow. You may need to experiment a little to find out what kind of pillow you like best.
