It’s a new year and there are reasons to be excited about especially when we think about what’s in store for us this year. Already this year there has been a lot of talk about stomach bacteria, natural probiotics, wellness coaching, and a vegan diet plan. We’ve rounded up the different health trends that will sweep the world in 2016.

Anything Plant-Based

For health and environment reasons, a plant-based diet encourages one to eat lesser amount of meat and fish and eat more fruits and vegetables. This practice is not only healthy for you but it is sustainable. This type of diet can bring about so many benefits in one’s well-being including improved stomach bacteria. It can prevent diabetes and hypertension and you will have lower chance of developing heart disease. The phytochemicals found in fruits can stimulate the production of collagen which can improve your skin health. Fruits and vegetables also have fewer calories. Less good quality calories means not gaining weight excessively and being able to maintain a healthy body mass index (BMI). You see calories from fruits and vegetables are very different to calories of junk food. Your body processes them differently and to count both the same way, well, it’s just incorrect.

Plant based athletics will also be something to look out for. Most people are now questioning whether we really need animal protein to build strength and mass. Right now, the number of vegan mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters, athletes and bodybuilders are increasing. This is because these athletes who go on a plant-based diet experience a faster recovery period and a decrease in the muscle breakdown.

Increase Awareness On Gut Health

This year is the year that we acknowledge the importance of gut health and our stomach bacteria. Recently there has been so much research showing the relationship between the friendly stomach bacteria (probiotics) and our overall health. The health of our stomach bacteria can affect our immune system, our mental health and our cardiovascular, skeletal and muscular system. In order to get more probiotics in the body, one has to eat the right foods or take food supplements that will provide your body with a wide variety of friendly stomach bacteria.

Bug-Based Foods

Crickets are being dubbed as the protein of the future. Crickets have twice the amount of protein when compared with beef. 15% more iron than what we can get from spinach and crickets have as much Vitamin B12 as salmon. What’s even better is that they are more sustainable than meat. Other insects that are found to be edible and nutritious are caterpillars, larvae, flies and weevils.

Traditional Remedies

We are going back to basics. Ingredients such as turmeric, maca and spirulina and baobab will steal the spotlight this year. Turmeric is an herb used in Chinese, Hawaiian and Ayurvedic medicine. This bright orange root has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anticancer properties. Maca can improve one’s libido and improve mental health while the Baobab fruit is a great source of iron and antioxidants.

Natural Cosmetics And Skincare

Topical skincare products that we apply to our skin gets easily absorbed by our cells and there are ingredients found in traditional cosmetics that can do more harm in our body than good. This year we will continue to see the rise of all natural and organic skin care products in the market.

Minerals In The Spotlight

We’ve been crediting the benefits we get from the different vitamins. But this time, it’s all about what the minerals can bring. According to functional medicine docs, 80% of us have inadequate amount of magnesium which explains the stress and the sleeplessness. Magnesium is one powerful mineral that can help build muscle and bone strength. It also builds the immune system and controls several chemical reactions in the body. A lot of people this year are “remineralizing” with the use of magnesium oils and sprays that are applied topically. Or if you prefer, try soaking in a hot bath with magnesium flakes.

Yoga At Home

With yoga quickly growing in popularity, people are looking for other options to going to classes. Luckily these days we no longer need to fit into our local yoga studios class schedule. We can now do a proper yoga class in the comfort of our home with classes to follow on our computer or phone. So how do we do this? Well, we can use online programs such as YogaDownload. Check out our YogaDownload review for further information.

Beauty Products You Drink

Skincare will no longer be just about what you slather on your face. There are beverages now that are loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that can promote skin health. The amount of nutrition that we get from the food we eat is connected to the well-being of our skin. You too can consume these beverages so your body gets enough nutrients, vitamins and minerals to fight off premature aging, acne and breakouts. Check out our Skinade reviews for further info.

Matcha

Now becoming a staple in many coffee shops. Matcha is a kind of Japanese green tea. It is rich in antioxidants and has become an alternative drink to sugary juices, coffee and even to other kinds of teas. This comes in a powder form that is whisked in either hot water or milk. Among other things, Matcha is great for your stomach bacteria.

Seaweeds Rising

Forget about kale. This year is all about seaweeds, one of the most nutritious plants in the planet. It is one plant that is rich in minerals and bioactive substances that contributes to having healthy hair, skin and nails.

Mindful Eating

Calorie counting has been put aside this year. Healthy eating is now about attitude. Mindful eating is all about savoring each food that you eat and enjoying the experience, then moving on. It is knowing why you eat, when you feel like eating what you chose to eat, where and how much. From there you understand your eating pattern, empowering you to break bad habits and discover new options so you create a better relationship with food.
